About me

Hi! My name is Maggie Y.C. Cheng. I am a Taiwanese-born interdisciplinary artist currently based in Haarlem, the Netherlands. I have lived in the US, where I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Photography (BFA) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Through photography, I explore personal experiences related to racial activism, otherness, and colonial history.

My work has been shown in the joint exhibition “Breaking the Myth: Anti-Model Minority Show” at Agitator Gallery in Chicago; “Momenta” Fall 2018 Undergraduate Exhibition at Sullivan Galleries in Chicago; and the SAIC class group show “A A C C C G G H J J L W - A Pop Up Group Show” at Gallery No One in Chicago.
My artist book, Microaggression, was acquired by the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection in 2018. In 2021, I was invited to give a book reading about my artist book, Microaggression, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as part of their Alumni Presentation series.
